About the book

US, HUNGARIANS!

Supposedly, the footballer Ferenc Puskás, the inventor of the Rubik’s Cube Ernő Rubik, the Oscar-winning film director István Szabó and the Nobel Prize laureate writer Imre Kertész are the best-known Hungarians in the world.

The founder of the film corporation 20th Century Fox, Vilmos Fuchs was also Hungarian, while the two American movie stars, Tony Curtis and Paul Newman were of Hungarian descent. Even Hollywood itself was founded by a Hungarian, Adolf Cukor, and Hungarians played a major part in the invention and development of the carburettor, the gas turbine, the floppy disc and the ballpoint pen, the biro.

In this book we will present thirty-five contemporary Hungarians: among others, Ferenc Rófusz, the creator of the Academy Award winning animated short film, The Fly, Roby Lakatos, who successfully fused Gypsy folk music with jazz, István Jónyer, who would beat Chinese world champions in table-tennis. Also, we will introduce Áron Becsei, whose unique watches are worth millions and are highly popular among the world’s celebrities, Károly Péteri, who was an apprentice in violin making in Cremona, Italy and won major insight into the secret of the Stradivarius as well, Éva Rédei animal rescuer, artist Ibolya Axt, as István Bábel the owner of a simple eatery, who has been interviewed by the BBC and the CNN to reveal the recipe of his majestic Hungarian goulash.

That’s us!

Hungarians.
